Title

The Medieval Globe: Communication, Connectivity, and Exchange, Conference

Description

The Program in Medieval Studies planned a major conference to celebrate its new global strengths and to further the reach, significance, and meaning of medieval studies. In the first decade since its establishment, our Program has become one of the most vital and diverse academic communities at the University of Illinois, combining the strengths of dozens of faculty in an array of disciplines. In 2011, it is poised to encompass regions well beyond Europe, including East Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas. The Medieval Globe will further extend this reach by bringing to campus a group of prominent scholars who are transforming our understanding of the medieval world–and the myriad ways in which our own world has been shaped by its complex relationship to the Middle Ages.
